Katsushika Hokusai was a Japanese artist, ukiyo-e painter and printmaker. He is best known for his woodblock print series - Thirty-six views of Mount Fuji (c.1831) which includes ther internationally recognised The Great Wave of Kanagawa, created during the 1820's.
